How to start with a recompiled game

A recompiled game is a port that runs on a PC or in a browser. This page is the short path through the directory: find a project, see what it expects, and leave for the page that actually launches it.

Start in the directory

Each game has one hub. Search by title, or use a filter when you already know the kind of project you want.

  1. Open Playable in Browser when you want a launch page today. LEGO Island and Doom are public browser builds. Some other browser players ask for a file you own and read it in the tab.
  2. Open Native PC ports when you want a program for a computer. Ocarina of Time lists Ship of Harkinian, the PC port built from the matching decompilation.
  3. Open the game hub and read every project card. One game can have a decomp, a static recomp, and a browser build at the same time. They are not the same program.

Read the card before you leave

The card names the project, its type, and whether it is self-contained or bring-your-own-ROM. Source, download, and Launch in Browser leave this site. The README on the other side is the install guide.

Bring-your-own-ROM means the port is a program and the game data stays with you. The linked project names the file it expects from a copy you own. recompiled.games does not accept that file and does not explain how to create it. A self-contained listing, such as the public LEGO Island build, publishes its own edition.

If you want to learn the work

Playing a finished port and starting a new one are different jobs. The decompilation guide is the slow matching path. The static recompilation guide is the translator path. Tools & Engines names the repository for each console. Read a finished example in the directory before you open a blank project.
